Tata Motors – India’s Wheel of Progress

Before India had global car dreams, Tata had a plan on paper—and fire in its belly. Born in 1945 as TELCO (Tata Engineering and Locomotive Company), the brand first built locomotives. But by the early ’90s, Tata had turned its eyes to the roads.

The first real stride came in 1991 with the Tata Sierra, a bold 3-door SUV that made heads turn. Then came the Tata Estate, the Sumo, and the game-changing Tata Indica in 1998—the first fully Indian passenger car. Designed, engineered, and built on home soil. It wasn’t perfect, but it was ours.

Fast-forward through the 2000s and Tata became a force—making commercial vehicles, buses, and passenger cars. Then came the Nano—the world’s cheapest car—and an unlikely global headline. But Tata didn’t stop at headlines; it bought Jaguar Land Rover in 2008, announcing to the world that India wasn’t just in the game—it was here to drive it.

Today, Tata Motors builds some of India’s safest, smartest cars like the Nexon, Harrier, Punch, and Safari—all crash-tested, tech-loaded, and street-styled. With electric mobility like the Tigor EV and Nexon EV, Tata is leading India’s green car revolution, too.

From building India’s first all-Indian car to owning iconic British marques, Tata’s journey isn’t just about machines—it’s about making India move with pride. And that’s the kind of torque we salute at Ignition Garage.
